Government and Governing

In 1909, the State of Michigan enacted the Home Rule City Act (Public Act 279 of 1909) which provided the framework for the incorporation of local governments.

In 1921, the Village of Hopkins drafted a Charter and became incorporated as a local government. While many changes have taken place over the last century, the Village of Hopkins continues to endure as “the busiest small town in Allegan County.”

The Village of Hopkins has several governing documents that outline how nature of the Village Government, as well as Ordinances that govern life within the Village. The Village Council also passes resolutions, from time to time, that direct certain aspects and actions of the Village government.
